CLERGY

A South Carolina native and PK (priest's kid), Fr. Michael was raised in rectories in Union, SC, Charleston, SC, Cocoa, FL and Coral Gables, FL. Fr. Michael did not heed the call as early as his father, the Rev. A.C. Cannon, did. Instead, he embarked on a career in data and technology entrepreneurship after graduating from Washington and Lee University in 1987. He also tended to the needs of a rapidly formed family: his children David, Jacob and Olivia were each born a few years apart. After 20 years, his first marriage ended. He met Erika at church and they developed a friendship rooted in their shared faith. They married in 2010, adding Erika's daughter Isabel to the mix, and with full knowledge of a call to the priesthood Michael had held close for 10 years. He graduated from the School of Theology at Sewanee in 2018 and was ordained a priest in November 2019.  He served as deacon at St. Andrews Episcopal in Fort Pierce, FL, and as associate priest at St. John's Episcopal in Tampa, FL, before coming to St. Paul's as rector in March 2022.
